The Met trip was yesterday. The night before, Hannah was free and by herself for once, so we hung out on her bed till 1 or 2 in the morning :) Hence the slight tiredness on the day of the Met trip. We had to be down by the Saville lobby at 730am. I was on the non-Tate bus while Hannah, Nisa and Liz, Owen and Adam, and, of course, Tate were on the Tate bus :((( Haha and yes, the buses were separated into Tate, Non-Tate, and Intro to Academics people. So I sat in the second row next to Bunk with Will in front of us :)
Bunk, Will and I teamed up and went round the museum together. Honestly, were it not for Will, we would've taken 1.5 times as long! I saw Emile, Adam and Owen together. Whenever I said hi to Emile, he'd give a weak smile and look away to the side in that "oh, I don't want to look at you" way -_-'''' I guess he was right about things being awkward. Whatever awkwardness is mostly on his part, though, I swear! He's the one always looking away or not keeping the conversation going. And eventually I give up and don't talk to him unless I have to (hence my own consequential awkwardness). Hell, I have generally been able to gloss over such awkwardness in the past.
Anyway. We took a lunch break at around 1130 by the hotdog stands littering the outside of the building, and split up for the essay portion about 3 hours later. I picked "Bronze Statuette of Eros Running". I haven't started on it since it's due in 9 days haha.
The buses made a 20 minute pit stop at some turnpike place, and Will, Bunk, Alex, Hannah and I had Roy Rogers :) A few minutes before the break was up, Tate came and got Alex and Hannah going, since the Tate bus was leaving earlier than we were. She patted me on the back and chuckled and went, "Not you. You don't need to hurry." at my pitiful, harried expression haha.
The five of us plus Kaye the cool 2nd year animator watched The Adromeda Strain in Bunk's room when we got back! And then the first two episodes of Arrested Development. That series should never have been cancelled!
And then we dispersed and Hannah and I went back to the apartment. At the lifts, she fake punched me. So I fake punched her back and she licked my knuckles EWW! I spent the rest of the walk back to our room wiping my hand on her. She's lucky we're such good friends or I'd seriously be
so irked! We hung out and talked on her bed again after I showered (because it's more comfy with furry blankets and more than one pillow). And fell asleep.
I woke up at 1pm and was just like SHIYETTTTT because that's when I was supposed to meet Anthony! He had been waiting upstairs for awhile :/ But anyway, once I got up there, we watched Tekkon Kinkreet and walked around the barrio in the cold. And then his buddy Ian and his wannabe aggressive 13 year old cousin picked us up in his cool new sportscar.
We had dinner at this nice TexMex place called the Border Cafe, dropped Kyle (the cousin) at his friend's place, picked movies up at Ian's, and watched them at Anthony's. We only had time for Blood: The Last Vampire - which was really freaking short - and Dead Space, which wasn't very good at all. The script was rubbish, full of statements that were intended to be cool. The gore was fine but didn't really stand out.
They gave me a ride back to the Saville after.

dcad life
I went to the DCAD improv group yesterday :) The DCADents meet every thursday in 409. It's super fun!
So it turns out Sadie DIDN'T do anything on my bed, thank goodness. I asked her about it and she seemed pretty truthful. And to back her up, Emile asked Antonio days before then when he was drunk and thus completely forthright, and he said they didn't do anything :)
Though on the other hand, that means someone
else was in my bed doing something, which is worse because at least Mercades and I are kinda friends.
But anyway. I stopped by the apartment in the late afternoon to get some rice krispies and found the dishes washed and Sadie vacuuming. I feel soooo bad now! She was even like, "Yyyeah, Emma and I have been waiting to see how long it'd take you and Hannah to clean, and you guys didn't." It's just that I've been waiting for someone to broach the topic of a cleaning schedule or something instead of being proactive. I really have no excuse :( Well, except that I always wash the dishes I use immediately after I'm done with them, so whatever's in the sink mosdef isn't mine. But it made me feel so guilty that I've decided to clean the house next friday :)
Oh and today I went to Scott's office and got the socks I guilted Karen into sending me :)
The Art History exam is next tuesday. Let's hope I do well. Art Hist is the only thing I'm getting B's for right now. I'm hitting A's for everything else! :D
BTW Tate really does like me! Or at least doesn't hate me :) She looks right back at me whenever I glance at her during her lectures. And she laughed at the face I made when she joked that she was just a sweet old senile lady, and snorted at my eyeroll in rejoinder to her sarcastic "And we all know men don't abandon women." remark. And said mostly nice things (and talked about the bad things in a nice way) about my 'Palette of Narmer' and 'Assurbanipal and His Queen In The Garden' comparison notes.
The nice thing about her is that you know she cares. Last lesson, before we continued with Aegean art, she started with a short speech on how she knows many students hate her, but that she's pushing us because she knows we're capable of better. And called teachers who mollycoddle us/tell us we're perfect the way we are disrespectful. That they think we can only do that well. Which makes sense, I suppose. But yeah. Her ostensibly honest and somewhat hesitant delivery of said speech actually convinced me she
does care about what we think of her.
And apparently, Tate's a lesbian! Who found out she was gay when she was 30 or something, and has a son. I couldn't tell at all at first, but now I'm starting to see signs. Like how she picked on Emma by asking if she wasn't talking to/looking at her during class for religious reasons. And how she said she'd stood right next to the special pillar in the "Palace" Complex in Knossos, Crete with "someone". Hmmmmm.
I finally went to church last sunday :) There are like practically no young adults/teens there. This man called Barry brought me out to lunch and gave me a ride home. He was kinda strangeeee. While on the subject of his lack of an internet connection at home, he told me he felt tempted to look up "nude pornography". I tried not to show any outward signs of unease, but inside I was thinking, "Okay, WTH? Why are you telling me this?" What a creeper. No wonder he's not married! But yeah I became a little taciturn after that ><

omg my life has changed irrevocably!
I was telling Adam all about my exciting life prior to DCAD when I realised I can't have left for Vietnam a week after my 16th birthday if I left mid-June 2006. Which means I MOVED TO 'NAM WHEN I WAS 15! omg! This is slightly mindboggling to me because I've told everyone who's asked (and practically everyone asks) that I moved there when I turned 16. And a year makes a difference ><
Something horrible has happened. I woke up from a nap one afternoon to find a piercing on my duvet. A lip piercing, I think. The most likely person to have a lip piercing and to be in my apartment is Mercades' boyfriend, Antonio. Which means they've probably had sex in my bed. WTH. I haven't asked her about it yet. I keep putting it off. Emile tried to comfort me a few nights ago by saying they might just have been making out. -_-' Which is still kinda gross. Seriously, WTH! Though I suppose there's still like a 12% chance it belongs to someone else who just
happened to step into my room and just
happened to lose a freaking LIP PIERCING ;AKSDJF;ATHWEIKAFJMA;GLAKJWEF My Fridays are bereft of lessons, so I took the time to WASH MY SHEETS AND PILLOW CASE. Unfortunately, I don't think I can fit my duvet in the tiny washing machine, so I'm going to have to find a laundry place.
In other less disturbing news, Karen says she's sent me "a supplies" in the mail :) See, my guilt-tripping
does work! She was initially going to beg off posting the socks with facetoes because she only had a week left in Singapore (-_-' which to me is more than enough time) and was lazy as hell. But then on facebook I was all like, "Well, can't say I'm surprised. Have a good flight :)" all written out with capital letters and punctuation where they should be, i.e. very formally and not as demotic as I usually am. And I didn't reply to her "eeks that's so horrid!!! i feel so bad now ):" comment or her "waaaaaiiiiiittttt they were purchased today yay!!" comment 2 days after that. Generally a reeeaaaal guilt-trippy operation. This is irrefutable proof that she totally can't resist my guilt-tripping. :D

on mission trips
The scariest thing
would be coming back unchanged
and still a heathen.
In other news, I'm doing pretty well :) I've managed to shed the unfriendly scowl-y persona I adopted in the hallways of BIS in favour of one more smiley and kooky and approachable. I even strike up conversations with people sometimes! Which must mean I'm a lot more comfortable with myself than I used to be :)
The work is straightforward, but labour-intensive. We are expected to spend at least 4 hours outside of class on each course every week, but you usually end up spending more. Most of my teachers know who I am/am aware that I exist simply because I'm usually the only asian person in the class :P And everyone remembers my name because it's so cool: Chillin' :D
I even found a friend to sit next to in Writing&Lit and ArtHistory :) His name's Emile and he's 24 and very well-travelled.
It's strange, but I find myself befriending a lot more guys than girls. "But what's so strange about that, chiazzz?!?" you may ask. Welllllll just the fact that prior to DCAD, I rarely hung out with guys (not counting Adrian and Marcus). And now? I am on tickling/poking/making-funny-faces basis with Dmitri, I sit next to Emile in 2/5 of my classes, Alex talks to me whenever we bump into each other, Emile texts/facebook chats with me, I joke around with Andy (or Dmitri or Isaac) during the boring parts of Drawing I... I have more guy friends than girl friends! o_O
I spent the labour day weekend at Hannah's. Her extended family came also :) The other kids are enamoured with my name. My time there was peppered with many spontaneous cries of "Chillin' Kwa!" and "dude seriously your name is so cool." And I am now also on tickling/poking/making faces basis with Emmett :)

on choosing friends
Pick your friends. There are those who would call themselves friends and those who act like friends (and those that deserve no friends). Cut loose the ones that make you feel less than yourself. Less than you could be. And the ones that stay up with you into the wee hours of the morning? The ones that indulge in your quirks and forgive your mistakes and overlook your imperfections? Those you keep. For as long as you can. Until you change and grow and
change and
grow beyond what you are,
who you are. Beyond what you ever had in common. And what's left is nothing, because what
was is intangible and frail and requires constant care. Constant. Attention. Are you listening?
Pick.
Your friends.

¡YO CORRI 4KM POR LA MANANA!
Michael Jackson died today :/ Cardiac arrest or something. Strangely enough, people have been celebrating his music more than mourning his death. Possibly because his music was such a huge part of his life. And also because he was much better at it than at his life.
Anyway! Yesterday, I met Adrian and Marcus at Lot 1 in the evening to watch Transformers 2 :) Shia Labeouf definitely looked manlier. He got himself stubble and a lower speaking voice. It works. Kind of.
Afterward, we went to a clinic and got Adrian an MC for his flu. And slept over at Marcus' house.
He woke us up in the morning and we went for a run omg! AND I RAN 4KM WITHOUT STOPPING! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT! Sure, I felt like poop after, but it's still pretty miraculous.
And then we just kinda hung around till after lunch, when we went to town to buy Karen's birthday present. We got her a purple jacket thing :) I hope she likes it. She better like it.
And then we went back to the yang house, watched tv, talked and took photos on Marcus' macbook. And walked around the neighbourhood taking pictures at stop signs and playgrounds. And played with the finger puppets I bought Marcus for his birthday last year, and split them between the core WLCC, and plan on naming them. WE ARE SO WEIRD OMG
Chris is coming back tomorrow :) Well, technically today. 'Cause it's 215am. But whatevs. I shall stay home in order to save monies!
