por que, por que, por que? (jueves, 18 de octubre de 2007),
Just now zia and I were discussing many deep things on windowslive! Like why people enjoy music (because it gives them fast good feelings) and why on earth are we made to do TOK (to force our peers to think deeper thoughts).
On music and stuff; I figured we do things like listen to music and watch tv and do drugs because it stimulates our emotions. And zia was all, then why don't I like to listen to music? And I was like, cos you like to earn your enjoyment? And it's true! He gains satisfaction from constantly improving at sports and doing well academically and all. He feels special knowing not many people are that good at football/whatever.
But not many people are like that. We all prefer our goodfeelings in different ways and are thus motivated by different things.
Most of us like to get the most value using the least possible effort in the least amount of time. We do not enjoy working hard for our goodfeelings! Hence doing drugs for their easy highs and drinking till temulent and watching tv to experience emotions that we don't normally/ are hard to recreate in our own lives. Like how millions of viewers tune in to find out if ross will ever make it with rachel or if sylar will triumph in the end or what happened to clark as he grew up in smallville.
And I guess familiarity also plays a part. Like watching friends for all of its er 9? seasons and getting to know them and getting used to them but having to part ways when friends finally ended. Or, say, for music. Hearing a tune you're familiar with, remembering lyrics correctly, singing along to something. Tapping your feet to a familiar rhythm since
we by nature do not like the unknown.
Which leads to, Why Are They Making Us Do TOK?
I suspect because the IB-makers didn't think people our age contemplated deep things very often, if at all. Though some of us do (hazard a guess who I refer to, HEH HEH. relatively, anyway).
And we stopped there cos it was 1 plus am and I hadn't bathed yet haha. I am pretty gross! Like even though my grossthings tolerance level has again decreased.
Ohoh da eun dyed my hair dark dark dark blue the other day. It's pretty cool, but you can barely make out any blue (I personally just see black):. Like only various korean people (da eun, dennis) can see any hint of blue colouring at all. We'll see if anyone can tell the difference when school restarts.
And something funny happened like yesterday. Da eun and I were at school doing nothing, and it was raining really heavily and we wanted to go hang out at someone's house. So our first thought was, Ruth! And I texted her asking if we could come over. She replied a couple of minutes later, dude im in cambodia! Hahahahahah! We ended up at dennis's place watching 300 in the end.
I'm getting a little disturbed thinking about how much I've started to question morals that used to be a given in singapore now that I'm in 'nam.
Dangerous, traitorous thoughts now frequent my head. You know, traitorous concepts like, what exactly is wrong with drinking and clubbing and smoking shisha?
Oh wait, right!
Our body = God's temple. Dayum okay.
No but doing all those things in excess would be tantamount to damage. All that in moderation should be fine what.
And while we're on the subject of temple vandalism, what's my stance on earrings supposed to be as a christian? Is that not bodily desecration also? I don't see how earrings are fine but piercings anywhere else are taboo. That's seems kinda double-standardy to me.
And swearing. I understand the not using God's name in vain bit, but how about all the other cusswords? Why can't we use those? OH WAIT I REMEMBER SOMETHING ON THIS. Something about not having bad words mix with good ones, like sewer water from a nice fresh spring or something. Hmmms.
And another thing. I think God's law takes precedence over human laws. Case in point how daniel and the rest of the hebrew guys whose names I cannot recall stuck it up to The Persian Man and didn't worship him. Human laws are fallible. God's are less so. Thing is, how do we know what God rules lawful and illegal? We probably should still be following the 10 commandments, even though they're in the old testament. I think the old testament laws that God established are how we should be living, only changing things mentioned in the new testament like sacrifices and stuff.
Me gusta IMing katrina! I can actually hold decent conversations with her, which I find quite a hard thing to do with most people online. We're going to go to gloria jeans and properly talk or something since it seems cool and sophisticated like sex in the city (according to her haha).
IMing charlotte is fun also.
Methinks language barriers are probably also why we're all quite segregated. And katrina told me the whole barrier thing's partially why she can't be bothered to develop a strong relationship with dennis. She even simplifies her english when she speaks to him! Which I think is a real shame.
Karen says the fishman I drew on her balcony door in july/august is still there! <333 Me likey that fish man. And he's like MAGIC since he made karen actually like him too, which is like a nigh-impossible feat normally.
Hokay it's like 254 in the morning hcm time and my tummy is rumbling. Next best way to silence it: Go sleep with my mommy now. Haha!
