Uniquely Singapore (viernes, 30 de enero de 2009),

Hey peepz what's up? :)

I met Karen at westmall today and bought her lunch at a kopitiam.
Then we went to her house and took a nap -_- She also finally showed me her memory drawer! :)
And at around 4, we went to that crazy-ass expensive comic shop behind kinokuniya in bugis so I could buy comics for my EE. I spent like $160 on those damned books! Karen even contributed $12 'cause she felt so sorry for me. I initially only had about $70+ on me, so I bought 3 books which cost me $85.30 (hence the pitygift of $12):

The Golden Age of Marvel Comics- $39.90
The Shield - $25.90
Avengers Masterwork volume 1 - $19.50

But luckily, I found a USD$100 bill behind my yamaha card, so we got that changed at a moneychanger and went back hahah. It was then that I paid $94.90 for another 3 books:

The Batman Chronicles volume 2 - $22.50
The Superman Chronicles volume 1 - $22.50
Stan Lee and the Rise and Fall of the American Comic Book - $49.90

So now I feel pretty broke and stupid for spending so much money, even though these exorbitant comics are going to lend my Extended Essay some weight and authority. SHIZNIYET! :(
Anyway. After that, we had dinner with Michelle at Mos Burger! And they told me about their weird schoolmate who shares a name with Michelley and whom not many people like, just because she does weird things like bring 2 pairs of the same dress pants on an Odyssey of the Mind trip and read a book in the moonlight on the balcony while everyone else is inside the hotel room watching tv/talking. I don't think there's anything wrong with being that strange, honestly speaking. I'd be a HUGEEEEEE hypocrite to shun her. So to Karen, I was all like, "Okay, um, I don't think we'd be friends if you'd known me in primary school. :(" AWWWWWW does that not break your heart? Michelle's a nice person though; she doesn't mind her namesake :)
And then Karen left and Michelle and I took lots of pictures with my mac at starbucks! And I bought her a drink :)

And yesterday (jueves), I met up with Grace :) We wanted to watch Milk, but it was only showing at like Great World City at 9pm (which was too late for her) and 640pm at Vivocity, and by the time we got to Vivocity, the only seats till available were the sides of the first row.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Before we went aaaaall the way to vivo, we had lunch at the McD's at lido, and then lots of fruitful shopping at Far East Plaza :))) I left the place with a banana bag for school and a pretty laptop case from a Singaporean shop on the higher levels. That laptop case's price also left me feeling stupid (but still a little content, because my mac is my baby and I like to dote on my babyyy) - cincuenta y nueve dolares -_- Though later on, Karen told me such a sum is normal for pretty cases and is one she would have paid as well. IT IS SO PRETTY ME LUVS IT! ♥
And after that, we went to vivocity and tried buying Milk tickets. But none of us were amenable to sitting on the sides of the bloody first row, so we decided against watching it. All things considered, I think just buying the bootleg in 'Nam or downloading a torrent of it would be a better idea than watching it in Singapore. It's probably heavily censored. I'm surprised it was even showing! So anyway. We started trolling vivo for more cool things to buy, and I bought a cute yellow eco-friendly bag from forever 21 with a pink elephant on it! It's so adorable ahaha (SHIZZZZ I'M SO BROKE ):
We crossed over to harbourfront for dinner and ate deeeeelicious chicken rice! And took cool pictures with her polaroid.

On Wednesday, I BOUGHT A MAC!!!!!!!! :DDD My dad and I went to simlim. The shop people were awesome :) They gave me programs for FREE (microsoft office, dreameaver, photoshop, indesign, etc.) and upgraded my 2GB of something (memory? RAM?) to 4GB (so I paid for a 2GB and got a 4GB :) as a promotion and gave me screencleaner, a hardcover, a softcover and an optical mouse for FREEEEE :) The softcover was real ugly though, which was why I bought that pretty laptop bag thing. All that for the low, low price of $2588 (market price for a 2.4GB processor thingy). I am muchos pleased :) Specially since my dad was originally going to buy me a white macbook, but changed his mind because that bargain was just waaaay too good to pass up.
At around 2, I lent my dad $50 so he could take a taxi home (HAHAAH SUCH A ROLE REVERSAL THERE) and he dropped me off at Ngee Ann for Felicia Chia's art class! They were doing 3D models, and it was aweeeesomeeee. There was this weird girl called Renee who was all random and WLM :) Felicious chose the right clique. The other table consisted of 4 or 5 pretentious indies keeping to themselves and playing Stars. I much prefer the funny faux-insulting jokes and the heavy Chinese-speaking of her table. They seemed more real somehow. I'd totally sit with them even though my Chinese is for poop!
In the evening, we met Trena and went to a Tanglin Dancers barbeque at Mrs. Jane Chng's house! It seems like the dancers don't like her, even though she's (evidently) gotten less temperamental and scary. A typical exchange between her and one of the dancers would be as follows:

Chng: Siti.
Siti: Yes, Mrs. Chng?
Chng: How's the food, darling? Are you having fun? How are your parents?
Siti (stiffly): Everything's fine, Mrs. Chng.
Chng: Good.

This is super contrast-y to the Chng who told me and hingying off for watching the TSS Dancer's drug dance practice and yelled numerous times at many of the dancers (and probably more athingying ahah). How awkward! We all speculate that something reaaaally horrible must've happened to her for her to be trying to be so nice. Poor woman.

I was in Malaysia from Sunday to Tuesday night. That night, we joined the Graces (excluding the Kelvins, unfortunately) for a reunion dinner at an overpriced chinese restaurant! The service was horrible as they were soooo busy. Some courses were sandwiched between TWENTY MINUTE INTERVALS of nothing on the lazy susan! And I don't really enjoy old school chinese food anyway. I don't eat the mushrooms or abalone or strange-looking fish or crispy pigskin.
The next morning, we drove aaaaall the way to Malacca to see General Electric and Annie Apple. Ahyi Patsy also came :) Hahah I think from this CNY onwards, we're going to be known as the sleepy family. Last CNY, my siblings and I dozed off on the couch. GE then offered us her bed, and we ended up sleeping through the whole visit ahahah. This year, we were fighting to stay out as long as possible. Even my dad had retired to Shanti's room after lunch ahaahha. But eventually we caved. Especially since, when GE's husband got back, he offered us the bed and opened the door (like a tempting salesman), revealing the waiting bed inside. We drove back to KL after that, and had dinner with the Graces again at the same Thai restaurant we went to last CNY -_- I wasn't that disappointed though, 'cause that restaurant is hecka delicious! And we had softshelled crab and green curry chicken and egg tofu and other stuff I didn't touch and it was soooooo. Goooooood.
Tuesday was shopping day! My sibs and I walked around the whole Lot 10/Pavillion area. I bought orange nailpolish! And a comic-panelled cap and an orange skirt printed with black heartsfrom Topshop, a highlighter (random, I know), a pair of sk4t3r b01 shorts from Mango (which I wore today :), pretty accessories for myself, the PMBuddies and Seolye (oh crap, I forgot to buy Suyeon's piercings and something for Fly and Katrina!) and a strapless black dress for my last senior formal! Good pickin's :))) We flew off later that evening and had a WAAAAAY overpriced dinner at the aeropuerto.

On Saturday, we lunched with Edwin at some Crystal Jade place in Shaw House :) And I snuck off and bought an ironman action figure ahahahaha.
And then I walked around town with my sister and bought a pair of black jeans. and later, at the heeren by myself, a pretty pair of chequered heels! I REALLY NEEED TO STOP BUYING POINTY SHOES. Too much of a good thing.
I met Michelley at Gloria Jean's later. And then we had dinner at Aston's with her friend Pravast (Pravash? Prashat?) and SHE BOUGHT ME DINNER YAYYYYYYYYY :) The service was so horrible though! They got my order wrong and brought the wrong stuff to our table twice. Grrr Uniquely Singapore.

I came back on Friday :) We flew Singapore Airlines (praise be to the Father), so the roughly 2 hour flight (vuelo) was quite bearable :) The first thing I did when I got through customs was to buy a McChicken Meal and eat it for lunch on the taxiride home :)))))) I LOVE MCD'S!
I met Nick for dinner afterwards. He treated me to a sushi dinner at Marina Square! And it was goooood. Softshelled crab and unagi and chawanmushi and ramen with gyoza. I even tried some of his pregnant fish (not my thing).

Okay so my cousin Angie's getting married soon, I think :))) The relatives are all scandalised that she's only inviting the relations that she likes. E.g. she's left out one of my cousins and invited the other two PLUS their mother -_- Now, I'm all for the right to choose who gets to go to what should be the happiest day of your life, but relatives are important (even if they are supremely annoying)! When you're down and unliked and friendless, who's going to ignore all that and take you in? Blood is thicker than water, and so forth.
So I was saying that if she weren't to invite me (I think she is, though :), I'd retaliate by inviting her to my wedding and seating her at the VIP table hahahahhahh. Turning the other cheek never felt so good.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting my 7 for bio :))) Yeah, baby! I got 7s for both bio papers, though I did better on the retest than the compromised one.
Oh, you didn't hear what happened? Well, Max, Dukho and robin got caught memorising the markscheme -_- FOR SHAMEEE. The idiots didn't think to rephrase their sentences or only write down the points they actually learnt about. So on the first day back from school after mocks week, we had a surprise bio retest. The most embarrassing thing about this affair is that I'm pretty sure the rest of the school is under the impression that we all cheated. 'Cause the other day, Anna came up to me and was all, "Hey, I heard you guys had to do a retest because you cheated on your bio exam." I promptly reassured her that only a few of us cheated and got caught.

...FOR SHAMEEEEEEEEEEE
Haha aaaanyway. we also got our English papers back, I GOT 19/25=6S FOR BOTH I'M SOOO HAPPY :)))))) I usually do so badly in lit. I was actually aiming for a 5, so the 6s were a welcome surprise. Haha at the end of school, I went to Ms Elaine and was like, "Hey, did you mark this... leniently? Did you... make a mistake?" and she was all like, "Heh. No, Chia Lynn. Some of your work was actually rather perceptive." SQUEEEEEE! PLUS, I was like 1 mark away from 7s in both :)))

'Tis the strangest thing, but I seem to always be missing Sundays whenever I come back to visit for short periods of time! My first sunday this trip was spent on a flight to KL, and tomorrow will be spent on my flight back to 'Nam. And in November, I left on friday or saturday (can't remember)!

stimulus: a change in the internal/external environment, detected by receptors and eliciting a response. (lunes, 19 de enero de 2009),

A song by Sébastien Tellier that I quite like. Though I prefer Divine and Look hands down. The awesome thing is that I first heard both Look and La Ritournelle from Ugly Betty. They both had their turn as the ending song! :))) Me encanta Bette la Fea (the american version)!

Okay so apparently Phuong Anh thought I was a dumbass ahahha. The phumies and I were facebook-stalking Katrina and PA's wall-to-wall, and after last year's EOYs, PA was all like "Who'da thunk Chia Lynn was smart!!!" to Katrina at my pretty good math grade (In case y'all forgot, Cho got a 7, I got a 6, and everyone else had 4s and 5s. SUCK ON THAT). I bet she thought I was dumb 'cause of how I performed in Mr. Peter's math class last year! He hated me and I was always messy and he'd always give me E5s and eventually I just gave up trying to please the man. :( Though towards the end he was nicer to me. Methinks it's 'cause he realised I wasn't stupid also ahahah

THE MOCKS ARE OVER, Y'ALL!!!!!!! Now I just haveeeee my extended essay and business IA and spanish oral (on thursday) and WL2 and IOC (for which I am screwed. Someone give me tips please) and IB art exhibition (7 more pieces, people!) left, and then the big exams, and then I'm done with school FOREVERRRRRR! Art school's not counted 'cause it's going to be drawing stuff and making models and animating stuff, not remembering the differences between eukaryote and prokaryote chromosomes (prok: circular DNA, chromosomes made of only DNA, DNA also in plasmids. euk: linear DNA, chromosomes made of DNA and proteins, always >1).

Sonnet XI (viernes, 16 de enero de 2009),

I just spent most of the school week sleeping over at Nishiki's with some other pmbuddies. and by 'sleeping over', I mean 'staying up all night and working'. Okay, I lie. Sometimes, I slept at 4.
JUST TWO MORE PAPERS TO GOOOO! The biology options paper and math paper 2 are on monday. And then it's studio art till after trips week :) And maybe I will be able to close my eyes at night without worrying about how the hell I'm going to remember porter's damned generic strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, focus) or how a dog crapped by a lamppost (Duffy's Psychopath). But look what I've managed to memorise:

I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.

I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the colour of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.

I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,

and I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.

'Tis my favourite Nerudan sonnet. I plan to remember it always! Haha and during the exam, Mr Dave saw that I had written it on the back of the question paper. He did a double take and mouthed, "You MEMORISED it?!"

OMGOGMOGMGOMGG I GOT A PHONE, btw. It's a nokia 6600! It's beautiful and sleek and heavy and it has colour and NO MESSAGE LIMIT and the battery's lasted for two whole days and counting! And if you've seen my old phone, you'll know why I'm so excited about what seem like standard mobile features. ><
